Looking Ahead
This month we launched an ongoing series Imago Dei. Imago Dei is a collection of real stories. Your real stores. We want to put on display the glory of God through words of his people. His people who are created in His image. So we invite you. Come. Share. Give Him all the Glory. We are looking for stories that tell your journey to encountering the good, the true, and the beautiful. Your stories that tell of glimpses fo the glory of God and the truly human things. Don’t worry about if you are a writer or not, we can help with that. You have an amazing story, and we want to tell it. Send us an email if you think you may be interested. We are here to help. info (at) expandingwisdom (dot) com
In the Dow House
This month has been an interesting month. We officially ended the 2013-2014 school year and took our summer Sabbath. We also learned about some learning issues one of my precious children is struggling with. This is turning me use Ray’s Arithmetic way sooner than I had expected, in addition to mostly oral lessons for this dear one. I am wondering how I will make it happen and trying to make sure my priorities stay straight. I can’t ever let any good thing I am doing intrude on my God-given responsibilities in my home. I am trying to be brave and honest about what is really necessary and what can go. This actually really scares me, so if you have an extra prayer, please pray for me that I would be faithful in this season.
July is also the month I officially graduated from the CiRCE Institute Apprenticeship program. What an amazing three years. Not only have I become a better teacher and writer but I have also become a better wife, mother, Christian, and friend. If I had to summarize my experience it would be that, in the Apprenticeship, I encountered form, freedom, and fame. Form, because I learned about and began to live in the forms of reality I never knew existed. Freedom, because I have begun an encounter with the liberal arts and continued an encounter with repentance and as a result I am learning to rule myself. Fame, because I have learned that every time I look into the eyes of another human I am looking into the eyes of Christ. I am forever changed because of it.
Lastly, we have started the serious planning for the 2014-2015 school year. I am committing to a fresh focus on the normative questions and will do my best to let that be the organizing principle for our year. I am learning so much about life-work balance, priorities, and repentance. Well, I am always learning about repentance. 🙂 Thank you for journeying with me.
Expanding wisdom, extending grace,
Jen
