The other day I had the privilege of having a conversation with Daniel Maycock. Daniel is a Classical teacher, who teaches math using the original texts (Euclid, Nicomachus, Apollonius) along with a few other subjects. Here is a little more about him.

Daniel Maycock is the founder of Polymath Classical Tutorials (www.polymathclassical.com) where he teaches Classical Mathematics and offers summer workshops in Writing and Mathematics. Daniel also teaches Composition, Literature, Material Logic at Memoria Press Online Academy. A homeschool graduate, Daniel has BAs in English and Music from LaGrange College, and a MA in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College, Annapolis. Daniel and his wife, Haley, live in South Carolina.

In our conversation, we discussed Math, how the ancients viewed it, its place in the classical curriculum, and how to teach math classically. It was a great conversation and I learned a ton. I hope you do as well.

P.S. Pardon some of the video quality, we will do better next time. Thank you for your grace.

So, what are your thoughts? What questions do you have? What is the most intriguing aspect of considering teaching math with the ancient texts? Join the conversation.
