Join me as I discuss with my friend Natalie about the Fabric Arts and more specifically sewing on day 13 of, 31 Days of Playing with the Arts.
Here are some notes about some of the things Natalie mentioned during the interview;
A good way to get started.
:: Start with something flat like place mats, coasters, a tablet cover, a draw string bag, or a tank top made out of a basic knit fabric.
:: If you are really ambitious you could also begin with a baby quilt or a rag quilt.
Integrating the practice of this art into your life.
:: Make things for your home
:: Make things to decorate your home, on a budget, and exactly to your liking.
:: Make clothing
:: Make costumes or props for your children’s activities
:: make Barbie and doll clothing
Going Deeper
:: Read and research
:: Begin collecting advanced supplies like a dress form
:: Look for inspiration and tutorials online and on Pinterest. Focus on image searches if you are unsure about terms.
It was wonderful to talk with Natalie and hear her passion and commitment to playing and practicing this art. It is inspiring to see one more example of how playing with the arts brings richness to the participant’s life. Thank you for reading.
Expanding wisdom, extending grace,
Jen
