November New Month News

Happy November Friends!

I am so excited to be writing this New Month News Post! SO much happened in October.

At Expanding Wisdom

We finished the 31 Days of Playing with the Arts Series, the 2014-2015 Classical Homeschooling Survey, and moved to WordPress! Whew! I can’t believe we accomplished everything we did. I am so excited for what it coming in the next several months. Make sure to stay connected, special announcements are right around the corner. In fact here is our first announcement through a little video tour of our new site. Take a look.

At the Dow House

Since we just finished the Playing with the Arts series we have a few more art project glittered around our house, including a host of  watercolor pencil projects and family newspaper projects (my 9 year old’s doing).

We have decided to do a mostly handmade Christmas this year. We want to focus on the gift of Jesus to humanity this holiday seasons at greater depths than we have before. Handmade gifts is one of the ways we are going to do that. We also decided to decorate our tree in the theme of the Hebrew desert tabernacle (crimson, purple, blue, gold, and silver) and are going to start a few advent traditions this year. I haven’t figured out all the details yet, but I know for sure we are going to use ‘Jesus, the Light of the World: Praying the scriptures through Advent‘ and I want to do something else along with it but am new to Advent traditions and not sure how to yet. Any ideas?

What I am Reading

I am still reading the same books as last month but am further along.  In Dante’s Inferno & The Abolition of Man with the Expanding Wisdom Community I am thinking more about sanctification and suffering. How much of Dante’s celestial journey parallels with sanctification on this side of eternity?

I am finishing The Iliad of Homer in my Greek & Roman Epics class and just beginning The Two Towers in my Tolkien/Medieval Lit class. This week our discussion was especially profound. As we went deeper in our discussion of what is better ‘to seek honor or love’ we were faced with some startling thoughts about whether we can really seek love and honor at all. Maybe love and honor are the kinds of things that can only be given, not sought, and maybe there is only one who can give them. I am trying to keep lead feet on here, but I can’t help the excitement of where this may lead.

Clicking Around

My clicking around lately has been mostly related to the researching handmade Christmas gifts and arts related ideas. So, basically, Pinterest.  Here are some of my favorite boards:
