Day 30: Project 5: Set the Table

For the last 6 days of our 31 Days of Playing with the Arts series, we are publishing a different project each day.

Each of these projects will help you get started in one particular art or will help you to generally engage in the creative process. The posts will be short because we want you to take more action than we want you to spend time reading.

When you have completed a project snap a picture if you want and share it on Twitter or Instagram with the tag @expandingwisdom That way we can all be inspired by and respond to each other’s art.

Today is all about the table experience. We will be applying some of the ideas in the flower arranging article from day 15 of this series 31 Days of Playing with the Arts.

Project: Create a center piece for your table using things you already have

1. Look around you house for what you already have. Look for vases, candles, and any table runners you have. Set some of them out so you can look at them. Setting them out helps bring inspiration and ideas.
2. Now choose a table runner you think goes best with your kitchen and with the flowers, trees, and outdoors in your area.
3. Select a vase, mason jar, pitcher, piece of pottery, interesting looking coffee mug, or some sort of container or pretty plate or bowl.
4. Select a couple to a few candles depending on the size your table. It could be one large one or several small tea candles. Use what you have. If you do not have any candles on had you could use a mirror laid flat.
5. Go outside a pick a few flowers, a branch with turned leaves,  or some other branch, plant leaf, etc.. Again, use what you have.
6. Play with a few different arrangements using these items you have selected. If you have daughter ages 9 and up they generally LOVE to help with this sort of thing. You may be surprised at what they come up with. However, WARNING, if this is your first go at it, do this by yourself this time and then it will give a pattern for your daughters to imitate in the future. My 9 year old has seen me do these sorts of arrangements her whole life, so I can now say “here is what we have to work with, create a centerpiece for me.” and she does it beautifully.
7. Light the candles and enjoy!
Don’t forget to share a photo of your creation on Twitter, Google+ or Instagram with the tag @expandingwisdom. You can also share it on Facebook and tag us @Expanding Wisdom
I look forward to seeing what you create!

Expanding wisdom, extending grace,

Jen
